Summary:Β When two “big name fans” go head-to-head at a convention, love isn’t the only thing at stake.

Charming, charismatic, and effortlessly popular, Conrad Stewart seems to have it all…but in reality, he’s scrambling to keep his life from tumbling out of control.

Brilliant, guarded, and endlessly driven, Alden Roth may as well be the poster boy for perfection…but even he can’t help but feel a little broken inside.

When these mortal enemies are stuck together on a cross-country road trip to the biggest fan convention of their lives, their infamous rivalry takes a backseat as an unexpected connection is forged. Yet each has a reason why they have to win the upcoming Odyssey gaming tournament and neither is willing to let emotion get in the wayβ€”even if it means giving up their one chance at something truly magical.

My Review

This is one of those particularly hard to write reviews because I just want to sit here and gush all over the page but I also just want to make sure that I don’t overhype this book. It’s a tricky line to cross. Essentially though, I just hope that my excitement and enthusiasm over this book is enough to entice you to pick it up and see if you end up enjoying it as much as I did. I listened to this book as an audiobook and I read it very quickly indeed. At every opportunity I had to sit down and listen, I actively did that. Which is always a good sign of a good book.

A warning however is that this book is also fairly emotionally heavy. Whilst I am dealing with some things myself at the moment, this book hit home in a particularly emotional way with some specific lines having me crying for quite a long time. To me, that just made this book ten times better. The characters were saying to each other words that I – myself – needed to hear and listen to and it made me feel a lot less alone. We all have our own issues and our own scars and sometimes we just need someone to tell us that we are not alone.

What truly made this book though was the depth of the main characters and the chemistry between them. I instantly fell in love with both Alden and Conrad. They were both different and were both dealing with different baggage but they just worked so well together. Also I loved the road trip and how it all came together and how they fell together eventually. The romance in the book was just incredibly intense but also incredibly sweet. The perfect mix as the two characters started to truly understand the other in ways they never thought would ever be possible.

All in all, this book had everything that I needed. It was romantic, cute, intense, sweet, emotional, heart-warming and heart-breaking all at the same time. It was real and raw and beautiful. I’ve also just found out that it is part of a series and I, for one, will be waiting on tender hooks until I can dive into the next book in this series. (Also, as a parting side note, I also very much appreciated that their was a character who went by they/them pronouns and that they were just a part of the book because it was a wonderful reflection of what the world around us is actually like!) So, if you’re wondering what book you should pick up next, perhaps you should consider Conventionally Yours?
